Dr Hutton said the study, which was funded by the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority, showed that the cost of the drug in the United States was lower than it should be. The price of Viagra® was around £3 per pill.
"We found that Viagra® cost less, if it's not used on a regular basis, it should be used on a daily basis," he said.
Dr Hutton said the study also showed that the medication may be able to help people who are suffering from premature ejaculation. In this case, people taking the medication may not notice their erections were not strong enough.
He said it would be best to consult a urologist if you have a persistent issue, and if you are not taking the medication, he or she could recommend a treatment option.
